The challenge

The food system is broken. The world’s population is growing and the demand for food is rising. Yet according to the UN, one third of all food that is produced is lost in production or wasted in supermarkets and households. Meanwhile, intensive global food production is fuelling the climate and biodiversity crises. Agriculture is responsible for 80% of deforestation and 70% of biodiversity loss, while more than a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions come from food and agriculture.

The solution

On a mission to increase global food resources without depleting earth’s resources, Agrain upcycles industrial food waste into tasteful and healthy products and ingredients such as flour, granola and snacks. Agrain products use spent grains from beer production to produce a high protein and fibre rich ingredient with significantly lower CO2e emissions and less land utilization than its alternatives.
